New Castle, NH – John Butler Smith, 94, of New Castle, died Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at his home.
He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, on August 2, 1918, the son of Archibald L. and Madeleine (Fellows) Smith. John Butler was a graduate of Belmont Hill School, Harvard 1940 and Harvard Business School, 1942 where he received a Master’s Degree in Business.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Strawbery Banke Museum, the Warner House and the New Castle Historical Society, as well as other local organizations.
John Butler was predeceased by his wife Gladys (Leavens) Smith.
Survivors include his cousins, Barbara Scott of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Johnson of Exeter, NH, Joan White of New Castle, NH, Arthur M. Heard of Portsmouth, Betsy Lufkin of Tacoma, Washington and all their families, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the New Castle Congregational Church, 65 Main Street, New Castle, NH. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Brown Ave, Manchester at 1:30pm. Friends are invited. There will be no visiting hours.
