Robert Patterson Fleming, Jr., 87, of Greenland, died Monday, October 29, 2012, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born May 26, 1925 in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Robert P. Fleming, Sr. and Blanche (Metzgar) Fleming.

Robert was a graduate of Lafayette College, Class of 1946 and received a Quality Control Certificate from the University of New Hampshire.

He served in the Merchant Marine-Coast Guard during World War II where he received four battle medals.

Robert was formerly employed at Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville, PA, Northeast Engineering in Manchester, NH, Simplex Wire and Cable and then as a Navy Consultant at Simplex Wire and Cable Company.

He was a member of the Middle Street Baptist Church; had been Vice Commander of Portsmouth Power Squadron; Vice Commadore of Portsmouth Yacht Club; member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

Besides his wife Nancy (Frink) Fleming, survivors include his brother, Glenn Fleming of Wolfeboro, sister-in-laws, Mrs. Louise Ramsdell and Mrs. Robert Malone both of Greenland, brother-in-law, Robert Rhoades of Brookfield, NH, and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be to the Middle Street Baptist Church, 18 Court Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801 or to a charity of one’s choice.
