Mabel L. Sargent, 89, died Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth. She was a resident of Portsmouth and for the past 22 years she wintered in Venice, Florida.
She was born in Kittery Point, Maine, on June 9, 1923, the daughter of Clarence and Gladys (Johnson) Amee and was a graduate of Traip Academy in 1940.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an operator for New England Telephone for 27 years.
Mabel was a member of the North Congregational Church of Portsmouth and The Telephone Pioneers. She was an avid gardener and loved to work in her yard.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis L. Sargent, sister, Helen White, and brother, Leon Amee.
Survivors include her grandson, Robert M. Sargent, Jr. of Portsmouth, great-granddaughter, Adelyn Sargent of Rye, and nephew, Stephen Amee of Venice, FL.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Friday, November 2, 2012 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. A memorial service will be held at 10AM on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at the North Congregational Church Memorial Chapel, 355 Spinney Road, Portsmouth. Friends are invited.
