Rye – Carol (Seybolt) Cole, 82, of Rye, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on April 2, 1930, the daughter of John E. and Carolyn (Badger) Seybolt. Carol was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1947 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of New Hampshire in 1952. She later received her Associates Degree in Library Science from UNH.
In addition to being a full-time mother to her three sons, Mrs. Cole was involved in several family enterprises, including Badger Farms Garage, Seybolt Motors and WeatherWatch Heating Services. While residing in New Castle, she served on the School Board. She also served as a Rye School Librarian and a census taker. Prior to retiring, she assisted clients of the Community Developmental Services Agency in Portsmouth.
She was a life-long member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church (South Church), serving on numerous committees. She was also a Life Member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a member of the Portsmouth Athenaeum. As a member of the Colonial Dames, she served as a volunteer at the Moffatt-Ladd House, where she enjoyed working in the garden.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Arthur P. Cole; three sons, John P. Cole and wife Doreen of Livonia, Michigan, David A. Cole of Rye and Boulder, Colorado, and Andrew J. Cole and wife Carla of Rye; four grandchildren, Allison and Robert Cole of Livonia, Michigan, Caden and Parker Cole of Rye; numerous nieces and nephews.Services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday November 7, 2012 at the Unitarian-Universalist Church (South Church), State Street, Portsmouth, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Unitarian-Universalist Church (South Church), the Moffatt-Ladd House or a charity of your choosing.
