Rochester – William “Boodsie” Devanna, 50, died Thursday November 29, 2012 at his home after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Boodsie was born on December 29, 1961, in Everett, Massachusetts, the son of Barbara (Cohen) Devanna and the late William J. Devanna, living most of his life in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
He received his Associates Degree from the Thompson School at the University of NH, in culinary arts.
He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church of Corpus Christi Parish in Portsmouth and recently of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester and lived his faith. Boodsie was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Boodsie ran the family restaurants in Hampton for two decades, later starting his own business.
Surviving members of his family include, his wife, Dawn (Dragon) Devanna of Rochester; his mother, Barbara (Cohen) Devanna of Berwick, ME; a brother, Michael Devanna; four sisters, Denise (Devanna) Foster of Berwick, ME; Debby (Devanna) Metcalf and her husband Richard of Eliot, ME; Mary (Devanna) Metcalf of Berwick. ME, and April (Devanna) Cote and her husband James of Somersworth; his stepdaughter, Rebecca Casagrande of Syracuse, NY; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his stepson, Dennis Casagrande.
Services: Calling hours will be held from 4-7pm on Monday, December 3, 2012 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 189 North Main Street, Rochester. Friends invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s School, 125 Austin Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
