Roland E. Huston, 95, of Rye, New Hampshire, died December 18, 2012 at Clipper Harbor of Portsmouth.

He was born October 14, 1917 on his family farm in Freedom, New Hampshire to Ansel E. and Goldie M. (Thurston) Huston. Roland graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1935. He married Sally A. King of Bethel, Maine on August 16, 1942 in Portsmouth. They were married for over seventy years.

A World War II Veteran, Roland served with the Navy’s 53rd Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees) on the Island of Guam in the Pacific.

Roland started work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on June 1941 as a Welder and retired in June 1978 as a Planner and Estimator.

Roland was a member of St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM for over sixty years. He also was a member of Rye Congregational Church.

He leaves behind his wife Sally; sons, John R. Huston and Dr. Roland E. Huston, DVM and his partner Sandy Moore; daughter, Paula S. Caswell and her husband David T. Caswell; grandsons, Corey and Devin Huston; granddaughters, Kristin Bolton and her husband Mark, Jennifer Caswell and her partner Graeme Walford, and Sarah Caswell; great-grandson, Max Bolton; several nieces and nephews, and his faithful Pekingese “Nikko”.

Roland was predeceased by his brothers, Alfred and Ansel Huston and his sister Mary Manning.

Visiting hours will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, NH. Masonic services by St. John’s Lodge No. 1 F&AM will be held Thursday at 1:45PM followed by a funeral service at the funeral home at 2:00PM. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
