U.S. Veteran

Exeter – Kenneth E. Goode, Jr. 88, of Exeter, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Langdon Place in Exeter.

 

He was born on February 22, 1924 in Bangor, Maine, son of the late Kenneth Sr. and Josephine (Abbott) Goode.

 

Kenneth was educated in public schools in Bangor, Maine, where he received three years of ROTC training in High School.

 

He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific.  After World War II, he served four years in the Navy Reserve Submarine Division A01 Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard and two years with the Marine Corps League Seacoast Detachment, serving as Chaplin.

 

Besides 17 years with New England Tel & Tel Co, Kenneth had 7 years at Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard. He was a self-employed Master Electrician in Maine and New Hampshire and a licensed Real Estate Broker in Maine and New Hampshire.

 

Kenneth enjoyed dancing and belonged to local Square Dance Clubs, line dance and clogging groups.  As a young man liked boxing and was Golden Glove Champion in the Seacoast Tourney in 1949, boxing as light heavy weight.

 

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Violet (Gianesini) Goode of Exeter; four sons, Kenneth Goode III of Portsmouth, Michael Goode of Wells, ME, Martin Goode and wife Martha of Plant City, FL, and Mark Goode of Lebanon, ME; three daughters, Mila Woods and husband Jack of Plant City, FL, Martha Roy of E. Waterboro, ME, and Marlene Cummings of Lee, NH; four step children Noreen Sesin and husband Paul of Mansfield Ma, Keith Shea and wife Sharon of Dover NH, Gail Lyons and husband Chris of Portland Or and Karen Shea and husband Derek of Raymond Me; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; step grandchildren and step great grandson.

 

He was predeceased by his first wife, Eleanor Jewett in 1963, mother of his 10 children.  He was also predeceased by two sons, Matthew Goode In 1959, Malcolm Goode in 2010,  a daughter Mary Goode in 1964 and a step daughter Nancy Stratton in 2009

 

Visitation will be from 10 - 11AM with a service immediately following at 11AM, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth, NH. Friends invited. Interment will be in Central Cemetery in Rye. The family request that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to: SolAmor Hospice, 65 Lafayette Rd., Ste. 302, North Hampton, NH 03862.
