U.S. Veteran

Walter (Carl) Maines, II died Wednesday January 30, 2013 in Dover.

Born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on June 13, 1975 to Deborah (House)(Maines) Edison of Newington and Walter Carl Maines of Rye.

Carl attended Greenland & Rye Elementary, Portsmouth Junior High, before graduating from Portsmouth High School in 1994. After high school Carl served two years in the US Navy while stationed in San Diego, California. Before becoming disabled Carl was employed at Foss Manufacturing in Hampton.

Carl was a very dedicated son who had an unbreakable bond with his “Mumma” and would always work to make her proud - she was truly his best friend. For those who knew Carl knew he was an avid lover of tattoos, found enjoyment in collecting Star Wars memorabilia, and was a DIE HARD Dallas Cowboys fan. He struggled with many internal conflictions throughout his life, but found his happiest moments each weekend with his youngest daughter Maghen “His Pride and Joy”.

Although he had a tough exterior, he was a gentle soul who loved his family unconditionally and always told them so before parting ways. Those who will keep his memory alive include: His daughters Maghen, Maria, Mackenzie and step daughter Madison of Portsmouth, and daughter Kaitlyn of South Carolina; his mom and dad Debbie and Terry Edison of Dover; his father Walter Maines of Greenland; his sister and brother-in-law Shawna and Chris Fournier of Greenland; maternal grandparents Raymond and Mary House of Newington; Grandmother Ethal Lancey of York, Maine; aunts and uncles Pam and George Cyr of Newington and Vicki and Dale Foster of Farmington; niece Danica Fournier and fiancé Ira Barron; niece Kristina Fournier and nephew Jacob Fournier; great nephew Jaxon Fournier; and several cousins and friends.

Predeceased by: paternal grandparents Walter and Louise Maines; grandfather Albert Lancey; and Aunt Donna Marcotte and Uncle Peter Maines.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00AM at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. Services will follow Saturday, at the funeral home at 11:00am. Flowers will be accepted.
