Sophie C. Roylos, 92, of Portsmouth, died February 13, 2013, peacefully at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in Portsmouth, October 7, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Christos and Jenny (Stathis) Roylos. She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1938. She had worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard prior to her employment with New England Telephone Company retiring in 1983 with 37 years of service.
She was a member of Eastern Star, Rivermouth Chapter #54 of Portsmouth. A member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Dover, a former member and diligent worker of the Philoptohos Society and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Portsmouth.
She was also a member of AARP, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Telephone Pioneers of America and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include a sister, Annette, two nephews, Michael and John Roylos, a grandnephew, Isaac Roylos and several cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Lieutenant Colonel John Roylos in 1973.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Sunday, February 17, 2013, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. There will be no visiting hours. Interment will be in Sagamore Cemetery, Portsmouth, in the spring.
